Biography The Honourable Pierre A. Michaud was appointed as a judge of the Quebec Superior Court in 1983 and Associate Chief Justice of that court in 1992. He was Chief Justice of the Quebec Court of Appeal from 1994 to 2002.

Strongly committed to the issue of judicial ethics, he was a member of the working group of the Canadian Judicial Council that produced Ethical Principles for Judges, which was widely distributed nationally and internationally. Me Michaud is well aware of the challenges around access to justice and played a key role in civil procedure reform and the creation of a mediation service at the Court of Appeal of Quebec.

As the first president of the Comité sur le rôle des juges dans l’information du public [Committee on the Role of Judges in Informing the Public], he encouraged greater interaction between judges and the media in order to raise awareness of the role of judges and the workings of the justice system.

Since September 2002, he has been counsel at the firm Ogilvy Renault, where he focuses on arbitration and mediation. In 2008, he was awarded the Médaille du Barreau, the highest honour awarded by the Quebec Bar, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the advancement of law.
