Biography
Admitted to the Bar in 1974, Élizabeth Corte practiced in criminal law at the Community Legal Centre of Montreal. She was appointed a judge of the Criminal and Penal Division of the Court of Quebec in 2000. On September 28, 2005, she was appointed assistant coordinating judge of the Criminal and Penal Division of Montreal.
On October 21, 2009, she was appointed to a seven-year term as chief judge of the Court of Quebec by the government of Quebec. In addition to her responsibilities as chief judge, she also assumed the role of president of the Conseil de la magistrature du Québec.
Élizabeth Corte has been a member of the board of directors of the Société de criminologie du Québec and, since 1996, has been a member of its advisory board. A member of the board of directors of the Association des avocats de la défense de Montréal since 1993, she was the president from 1996 to 1999.
She taught criminal law at the École du Barreau of Montreal from 1986 to 2000.
