Biography
Me Ouimet is president of the Quebec Bar. He was admitted to the Bar in 1987. He began his career in criminal law with the Montreal firm Shadley, Melançon & Boro. In 1993, Me Ouimet became an Attorney General’s prosecutor in Montreal and, in 1995, head of the team of prosecutors for tax evasion. He was appointed legal counsel in the federal Department of Justice in 1999 but chose to return to private practice a few months later with Shadley Battista, S.E.N.C. He is a founding partner of that firm.
Among other roles, he has been a member of the board of directors of the Association des avocats de la défense de Montréal [Montreal Defence Lawyers Association] (1992-1993) and of the Bar of Montreal (1994-1995, 2003-2008). He has also been a member of the Criminal Law Committee of the Quebec Bar since 1999, and was its chair from 2004 to 2007. As well, he was the president of the Bar of Montreal from 2007-2008. He is mentioned in the
Best Lawyers in Canada directory for criminal law.
