Biography
As president and chief executive officer of National Bank Financial Group, a position he has held since June 2007, Louis Vachon is responsible for the strategies, orientations and development of the Financial Group and its subsidiaries. He is supported by a team of senior officers who, with Mr. Vachon, make up the office of the president. At the time of his appointment, Mr. Vachon was chief operating officer, a position he had held since July 2006.
From January 2005 to July 2006, Louis Vachon was chairman of the board of National Bank Financial Group and of Natcan Investment Management. He also served as chief executive officer of National Bank Financial.
Mr. Vachon began his career in 1986 at Lévesque Beaubien. From 1990 to 1996, he worked for Bankers Trust, where he served, among other things, as president and chief executive officer of its Canadian subsidiary, BT Bank of Canada. Mr. Vachon rejoined National Bank in 1996 as president and chief executive officer of Innocap Investment Management. A year later, he was appointed senior vice-president – treasury and financial markets.
Louis Vachon serves as chairman of the board of governors of the Université de Montréal and chairman of the fundraising campaign of the Fondation de l’Hôpital Louis-H. Lafontaine.
Mr. Vachon holds a Master’s degree in international finance from The Fletcher School (a Tufts and Harvard University cooperative graduate program), and a BA in economics from Bates College. He is also a chartered financial analyst.
