Cour de Cassation of France

Biography Jean-Louis Gillet is a Division President with the Cour de Cassation of France.

He is also secretary general of l’Association des Hautes juridictions de cassation des pays ayant en partage l’usage du français (AHJUCAF), an association of 50 supreme courts that use French.

A graduate of the Institut d'études politiques de Paris, he joined the French judiciary in 1971. Appointed first as an investigating magistrate, then as President of the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Soissons in 1981, he became a judge of the Cour d’appel d’Amiens in 1983.

He was later appointed to the Cour d’appel de Versailles and became a Division President of that court in 1994. He became First President of the Cour d’appel de Rouen in 1999.

Since 2001, he has been a justice with the Cour de Cassation. He became President of the Second Civil Division in 2007. In 2010, he became Secretary General of AHJUCA.

As well, he chairs the entrance examinations for the École nationale de la Magistrature [national training institute for judges] and the Conseil national de l’aide juridique.
