Producing Plain-Language Multilingual Legal Information: Challenges and Effective Practices
The challenges of producing legal information that is understandable to its audience as well as legally accurate are compounded when the information is being produced in multiple languages. Participants who attended this workshop gained a better understanding of the challenges in producing multilingual legal information, and learned about practical steps and strategies for producing accurate legal information in multiple languages that is understandable and culturally sensitive to its intended audience.
The workshop was presented as a conversation. Selected “conversationalists” – people with experience in producing plain language multilingual legal information – shared their thoughts and ideas, responded to the questions posed by the moderator, offered examples from their experience, and suggested useful and practical steps and strategies. Participants were invited to join the conversation by asking questions or offering their own thoughts and ideas.
